Melt Pump, a positive displacement conveying device, is widely applied in the processing of polymers such as plastics, resins, and rubbers, and it may also be utilized in the production process of rattan-like machinery. Below is a detailed introduction to the Melt Pump:

I. Working Principle

The working principle of the Melt Pump is based on the change in working volume formed between two meshing gears to convey liquid. When the driving gear rotates, the gears in the suction chamber disengage, increasing the sealed volume and creating a partial vacuum. Material is drawn into the tooth spaces through the pump inlet under the action of external atmospheric pressure or gravity. As the gears continue to rotate, the material between the suction teeth is carried to the other side and enters the discharge chamber. At this point, the gears mesh, gradually reducing the sealed volume, and some of the material between the gears is extruded, forming the discharge process of the gears. The line of contact between the meshing gears separates the suction chamber from the discharge chamber, maintaining a pressure difference between them.

II. Main Structure

The Melt Pump mainly consists of a pump casing, driving gear, driven gear, sliding bearings, front and rear end plates, gland packing seals, etc. The tooth profiles of the two gears, the pump body, and the side cover plates constitute the feed zone, conveying zone, and discharge zone of the pump.

IV. Main Applications

Melt Pumps are widely used in the extrusion molding of plastics, resins, and rubber products, such as granulation, film, pipe, sheet, and plate industries. Specifically, Melt Pumps can be applied in the following ways:

Pressurize and stabilize the high-temperature plastic melt from the extruder and maintain a precise and stable flow rate into the extruder die.

Operate in tandem with single-screw or co-rotating twin-screw extruders to enhance the overall efficiency of the production line.

Attach a Melt Pump and extruder dies for pipes, plates, films, etc., to single-screw or co-rotating twin-screw granulating extruders to eliminate the granulation process and directly extrude products.

Achieve simultaneous feeding from multiple small to medium-sized extruders to one Melt Pump, where the melt is pressurized and metered before being supplied to the die for extruding large products (e.g., large-diameter pipes, wide plates, films, etc.).

Stable Extrusion: The Melt Pump effectively reduces material output instability and pressure pulsation caused by extruder parameters, improving the dimensional accuracy of extruded products and reducing waste rates.

Increased Production: By transferring the decompression function of the extruder to the gear pump, the extruder can operate at lower pressure and temperature, reducing melt residence time in the screw barrel, stabilizing the plasticization process, lowering melting temperature, and increasing product output.

Energy Reduction: The Melt Pump is more effective than the extruder in establishing die pressure and can reduce the extruder's backpressure, thereby lowering energy consumption.

Extended Lifespan: The Melt Pump reduces wear between the screw and screw barrel, lightens the load on the thrust bearing of the gearbox, and extends the service life of the extruder and related equipment.

Convenient Monitoring: The Melt Pump's linear extrusion characteristic facilitates coordination between upstream and downstream equipment. Additionally, due to its low leakage flow rate and nearly linear relationship between conveying capacity and rotational speed, it allows for full online monitoring and feedback control throughout the extrusion process.
